The 1970s were the decade in which hip-hop was ‘born’, witnessed only by the happy few who were there. In the 1980s hip-hop grew from a local phenomenon to a new musical genre and worldwide cultural movement.
By 1984, youth worldwide were embracing the hip-hop culture. The hip-hop artwork and "slang" of U.S. urban communities quickly found its way to Europe, as the culture's global appeal took root.
