  • French rap is a musical trend born out of Hip Hop that emerged in France in the mid-1980s, mainly broadcast on pirate radios. It became popular in the following decade with the emergence of the first or second generations of groups or rappers such as MC Solaar, Suprême NTM, Lionel D, IAM. It has become by its descent and its omnipresence in the charts the most popular and influential musical style in France. The mix of various African, Caribbean and other traditions is one of the strongest specificities of French rap.
